Shards of Dawn

Four islands. One hope.

Shards of Dawn is a standalone fantasy turn-based 2D strategy game for iPhone by MAD FOX Games. You gather an army, explore four islands, defeat the guardians and bring the dawn back to the world. The game runs fully offline, with no ads, accounts or in-app purchases. The interface is available in English and Russian.

The first release is in preparation. There is no App Store link yet: the release date and price will be announced on this page.

01 / What kind of game is this

A classic hero-and-army strategy, made for your phone

If you loved the turn-based strategies of the nineties, where a hero leads an army across the map, hires troops and takes fortresses, this one is for you. Shards of Dawn is a standalone game with its own world and rules: it is not an official King’s Bounty port and not part of the Heroes of Might and Magic series.

Who it is for. Players who like to think about a move, count the army’s upkeep and plan a route, rather than tap on timers.

What it is not. Not a city builder, not an idle game, not an action RPG. Battles are turn-based and you explore the map yourself.

Where and how. iPhone with iOS 16 or later, landscape orientation, large buttons and no internet required.

02 / Four islands

Four islands drawn for this game

Each island map is 64 × 64 tiles with its own geography: peninsulas and lagoons, canyons and plateaus, moonlit groves and a volcanic caldera. These are original lands, not copies of maps from old DOS games.

Emerald Coastisland, 64 × 64 tiles
Amber Marchisland, 64 × 64 tiles
Moonwoodisland, 64 × 64 tiles
Ashen Peaksisland, 64 × 64 tiles

Screenshots of the new islands will appear on this page closer to release.

03 / Army and treasury

Build an army you can afford to keep

You hire troops in towns and camps, capture fortresses and pay upkeep every week. An army holds up to five different unit stacks at once, and the game has 25 troop types: infantry, archers, magical and flying creatures. Every unit’s stats are open in the troop reference.

  1. Cheap reserves or elite

Militia are inexpensive and work as an emergency reserve. Moonwardens stand firm under attack but weigh heavily on the treasury. Which is the better deal this week is your call.

  2. Archers and flyers

Sylphs fly over obstacles and shoot from afar, while Rangers run out of arrows and go hand to hand. The make-up of your stacks changes the whole shape of a battle.

  3. Storm now or later

You can assault a fortress right away or come back with reinforcements: the standard mode has no day limit, and nobody rushes you.

04 / Crossing the islands

By land, by sea and by air

Tap a tile and the game plots a route; tap again and the army sets off. The arrows on the map repeat the actual path, so there are no surprises. Boats carry you between the islands, and a suitable army can fly. Every mandatory objective is reachable without flying troops.

On foot

One tap plots the route, a second tap moves the army.

By boat

Sea crossings between shores and islands.

By air

Flight when your army is built for it. The main path can be finished without it.

05 / Turn-based battles

Every strike with the numbers in view

Battles play out in turns on a tactical grid. Stacks move, attack in melee and at range, defend, wait and retreat, while the hero casts spells. Before you confirm a strike, the game shows the expected damage and losses, so you decide with the cards on the table. Routine skirmishes can be resolved with auto battle or fast battle.

06 / The goal of the journey

Defeat 17 guardians and bring back the dawn

To restore the dawn you must defeat 17 guardians, find eight relics, collect 25 map pieces and locate the Heart of the Lighthouse. You choose the order of the objectives available to you; new islands open up as the journey goes on, and the standard mode has no day limit.

Challenge

A separate 180-day mode for players who want to test themselves.

07 / The Dawn Atelier style

Parchment, warm gold and turquoise

A light Dawn Atelier look: parchment screens, warm gold, turquoise accents and fantasy artwork. Large buttons, pages and tabs instead of long scrolling menus. Six instrumental themes — for the menu, the four islands and battle — plus local sound effects. The settings cover sound, music and reduced motion, and the language switches right inside the game.

08 / Offline, with nothing extra

Launch it and play

All game data and music are built into the app, so the game works without a network from the very first launch: on a plane, in the subway, at the cottage. Progress is saved automatically on your device; there is no cloud sync.

How the game handles data is described in the privacy policy.

  • No ads or tracking
  • No accounts or sign-up
  • No in-app purchases or subscriptions
  • No multiplayer or game server

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an internet connection?

No. All data and music are built into the app, and the game works offline from the first launch. No network is needed for saving or for completing the game.

Which devices does it run on?

iPhone with iOS 16 or later, in landscape orientation. Versions for other platforms have not been announced.

Which languages are available?

English and Russian. The language switches inside the game.

How much does it cost, and are there in-app purchases?

It is a paid game with a one-time purchase: no subscriptions, in-app purchases or ads. The exact price will be announced at the App Store release.

How is progress saved?

Automatically, on your device. There is no cloud sync, so backups depend on your Apple settings. See the privacy policy for details.

Turn by turn on a tactical grid: movement, melee and ranged attacks, defending, waiting, retreating and spells. Expected damage and losses are shown before a strike, and there are auto and fast battle options.

When will the game be released?

The first iPhone release is in preparation. No date has been announced; as soon as the App Store link exists, we will post it here. Email hello@madfox.dev if you would like a release notification.

Is this King’s Bounty or Heroes?

No. Shards of Dawn is a standalone MAD FOX Games title with its own world, islands and troops. It is inspired by the classics of the genre, but it is not an official King’s Bounty port and not part of the Heroes series.

What do the screenshots show?

Frames from a previous visual build in the current style. Maps of the new islands will be added closer to release, and the illustration in the header is artwork, not gameplay.
